REASONS WHY TO NEUTER

Having your pet neutered can help with numerous health, behavioural and social problems and being made aware of these can help you in making the correct decision for your pet.

NEUTERING YOUR DOG

Typically, male dogs are neutered from the age of 4 months old, as long as both testicles have descended. Female dogs (bitches) should preferably have had their first season before being neutered which is normally at around 6 months old.In certain cases, the procedure may be done from 4 months old although this is not generally recommended.  Any questions??  Please enquire by clicking HERE.

BENEFITS OF NEUTERING YOUR MALE DOG

  • Prohibits the development of testicular cancer.
  • Diminishes the possibility of developing prostate disease.
  • Eradicates sexual urges, decreasing the likelihood of him roaming and going missing.
  • Can help behavioural problems by reducing aggression, making them friendlier in the company of other dogs.
  • Less likely to urinate in your home.

BENEFITS OF NEUTERING YOUR FEMALE DOG

  • Prevents her coming into season, reducing hormonal changes in behaviour and the possibility of getting pregnant as a result.
  • Lessens the probability of developing certain cancers/tumours such as mammary, and ovarian.
  • Inhibits womb infections known as pyometra which can be life threatening and expensive to treat.

NEUTERING YOUR CAT

Generally, cats should be neutered from the time they can reproduce, this is usually around 4/5 months old.  For male cats both testicles should have descended.  It is imperative for your cat to be neutered at this early stage, especially if you have more than one living in your home. This will ensure there are no unanticipated and unwanted litters.  Any questions??  Please enquire by clicking HERE.

  • Can help prevent sexual urges, decreasing the likelihood of him roaming and going missing.
  • Less likely to urinate in your home.
  • Can help to prevent aggressive behaviour caused by the hormone testosterone.

BENEFITS OF NEUTERING YOUR FEMALE CAT

  • Prevents unwanted pregnancies.
  • Helps prevent the development of cancer of the womb and ovaries.
  • Inhibits womb infections known as pyometra which can be life threatening and expensive to treat.
  • Can prevent unneutered male attraction preventing fights, spraying and wailing.
  • Less roaming

NEUTERING YOUR RABBIT

Rabbits are social animals requiring companionship, it is important for them to be neutered to prevent unanticipated pregnancy and fights because of hormonal changes. Neutering can help rabbits live together harmoniously.  Your male rabbit can undergo this procedure once his testicles have descended. This usually transpires at around 12 weeks old. Female rabbits can be neutered at 16 weeks old so long as they are at a healthy weight of at least 1kg.  Any questions??  Please enquire by clicking HERE.

BENEFITS OF NEUTERING YOUR MALE RABBIT

  • Having your rabbit neutered will eliminate hormonal changes and aggression. Subsequently, this will enable your rabbit to live peacefully with others, preventing loneliness.
  • Unneutered male rabbits can often get into fights, this can result in serious wounds needing veterinary attention.
  • Less likely to spray urine in your home.

BENEFITS OF NEUTERING YOUR FEMALE RABBIT

  • Diminishes aggressive behaviour because of hormonal changes and prevents unwanted pregnancies.
  • Helps prevent the development of cancer. Statistics suggest that 80% of unneutered rabbits suffer from cancer of the uterus or ovaries by the time they have reached 5 years old.
